History of the Annapurna Circuit Trek

Annapurna Circuit Trek is first open for the foreign traveler in 1977 after the dispute between the CIA backed Kampa guerrillas operating from the Tibet and the local populace which was settled by the Nepal army. The original route of this trek starts from the Dhumre at the Kathmandu-Pokhara highway and ended in Pokhara and almost took about 23 days to complete. In this region road construction started in the early 1980s from Dhumre to north and from Pokhara to the west to Kali Gandaki valley, the road has now extended up o Chamje on the Marsyandi river valley and Muktinath in the Kali Gandaki side. However, the construction of the road has changed the structure, area, and atmosphere of the village and the road facilities increase the popularity of mountain biking in the area. From the year 2011, many companies in Muktinath and Jomsom rent the mountain bikes for the tourist to enjoy the gorgeous views of the mountain and to make the adventure trip. One can also experience the ride down from Muktinath to Tatopani and descend within almost 2-3 days.

Standard trek duration

The trek usually takes about 14 days starting from Kathmandu with the stop in Pokhara. The trial is moderate with a fair challenging and makes numerous river crossing over steel and wooden suspension bridge. Tea house and lodges along the route are available for food and accommodations. Some group makes tents but these are typically for side trips away from tea house and lodges such as peak climbing.

Day 01: Kathmandu arrival (1350m).

Day 02: City tour Kathmandu Valley BB Plan 

Day 03:  Drive to Besisahar (760m).

Day 04: Hike to Chame (2,670m).

Day 05: Hike to Pisang (3,300m).

Day 06: Hike to Manang (3,540m).

Day 07: Rest and acclimatization day at Manang.

Day 08: Hike to Yak Kharka (4,018m).

Day 09: Hike to Phedi (4,450m).

Day 10: Hike to Muktinath (3,800m) via Thorong La (5,416m).

Day 11: Hike to Jomsom (2,743 m).

Day 12: Fly to Pokhara (half day sightseeing).

Day 13: Drive back to Kathmandu, farewell dinner.

Day 14: Departure.

           

Depending on the speed of the hiker, number and length, rest days take during the acclimatization, weather, and where the adventure trek is finished and take almost 14 days to trek Annapurna Circuit Trek. Many trekkers choose to fly out from Jomsom Airport to save the time to explore the charming village, about its culture, religion, and tradition. It is also possible to continue from Ghorepani to Tadapani, Ghandruk, Landruk and then to Phedi, which follows the old Annapurna Circuit Trek. You can also enjoy the Annapurna Base Camp in the Annapurna Circuit Trek, the trail starts from the Tadapani and joins the route of old Annapurna Circuit at Ghandruk or Landruk.

It is recommended that the trekkers take the high trail from Pisang by Ghvaru and Ngawal to Manang to enjoy the spectacular views of the mountains and the villages which are the best-preserved samples of the Tibetan villages style. Sleeping either village with acclimatization as they are located in the higher than Manang. You can enjoy the views of the Tilicho lake during this trek. Now there are many lodges and tea house develops in this region and also near the lake at so-called Tilicho Base Camp, so tents are no longer required for the trek in most region If you want to go to Jomsom via Tilicho route, Outdoor camping and a tent is required. At a certain time of the year, snow condition can put you in difficulty so prevent from it.

Annapurna Circuit Trek Weather

While it's not possible to make the adventure trek during the wet weather but Annapurna Circuit Trek region falls in the rain shadow so you can make the vacation trip in all seasons. The wet season is encouraged by the hikers to avoid the crowd during the trek, however, the days are often damp and the views are disturbed by the clouds and weather.

Autumn Season (October-November) 

This season is the best trekking season in Nepal. Due to the season back to the monsoon, everything during the trek is very clear and fresh. Views are very clear and the night sky is also extremely visible. Though the weather is warm at the nigh time the temperature falls below freezing. However, you can make the unique experience by trekking in this season, the fresh environment, green forest. Lush rhododendron and many more. This season is the busiest season on the trek so tea house and lodge should book very quickly to make the vacation trip in Nepal.

Winter Season ( December-March ) 

This season is the coldest season and period in the circuit. Depending on the altitude, day time temperature is cold and nighttime temperature drop below the freezing. The route is less busy during the season. Through La Pass (5000 meters) is the highest elevation point in this trek which is often blocked by the snow and may close for the day and week too. Though the snow blocks most of the trial, the tea house is still open during this period. Though many natural disasters can occur in this season the days are still charming and many visitors are very excited t make the adventure trek in December. In the March months, the rhododendrons start blooming which gives the unique flaming color to the hills. Avalanches are most common in this season.

Trek to Annapurna Circuit

Spring Season ( April - March ) 

Because of the good and warming season, April and March months is also the picking season to trek the Annapurna Circuit Trek Region. The snow got melt, the sky gets clear and less chance of other disturbance during the trek. There you can see some strange particular form the lower altitude. However the particular cannot be seen as a reach in higher altitude. The monsoon period starts at the end of May, the days become hotter and more humid at the lower altitude which is quite uncomfortable to walk and continue the trek.

Monsoon Season ( June – September ) 

This season is the monsoon season. However, there are many stories of mudslide and leeches, this rare cases on the Annapurna Circuit Trek, mainly in the northern sector. While the southern section of the Annapurna region near Pokhara does not get enough rain in this season whereas the northern section receives 10% of precipitation because it lies in the rain shadow.
