Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu (1300 meters)

Altitude: 1300 meters

Day 03: Drive to Soti Khola

Altitude: 710 meters/2328 feet

Time Taken: 8-9 hours

After the early breakfast in the Kathmandu, we head to Sotikhola Which takes around 8-9 hours, during the drive, you can enjoy the beautiful views of the countryside surrounded by the green forest along with the mountains scenery. Day 05: Machhakhola to Jagat

Maximum Altitude: 1410 meters

Trekking hours: 5-6 hours

Day 07: Deng to Namrung

Maximum altitude: 2600 meters

Trekking hours: 5-6 hours

Day 09: Samagaoun to Samdo

Maximum Altitude: 3,740 meters

Trekking hours: 3-4 hours

After the early breakfast, on a ninth day, you will slowly walk towards Samdo village. Samdo is not too far but as you walk in the high altitude makes you walk slow. Day 11: Samdo to Dharamsala/Larke Base Camp

Maximum Altitude: 4,470 meters

Trekking hours: 4-5 hours

On the eleventh day of your trek, you will head to reach Dharamsala and your final destination (Larke La Pass). Larkya Phedi is also known as the Dharamsala which is situated at 4,470 meters.

You will begin your walk on the wild mountain path, cross the Gayala Khola and ascend to the ridge and reach the Larkya Bazar, walk through the scattered village. There is only one teahouse in the Dharamsala so it is good to book with advance to enjoy the basic accommodation facilities without any disturbance.

Manaslu Circuit Trek altitude

Manaslu Circuit trek altitude varies from as low as 700 meters to as high as 5160 meters. The trek starts from the Kathmandu which is at the altitude of 1300 meters and drive to Soti Khola (710 meters), walk through the Machhakhola, Jagat (1250 meters), Ghap (2050 meters), Namrung(), Sama Gaoun(3517 meters), Dharamsala (4480 meters), Bimthang trek through the Larkya La Pass (5160 meters), via Tilje (1725 meters), Tal and arrive at the Besisahar() and then drive back to Kathmandu from there.

Difficulties during Manaslu Circuit Trek

Altitude sickness

Altitude sickness refers to the group of the symptoms that can strike if you walk or climb to the higher elevation or altitude quickly.

Why does it cause?

The pressure that surrounds is called the barometric pressure. As you walk to the higher altitude, this pressure drops and there is less oxygen available.

If you live in a place that is located at a high altitude, then you are more familiar with that pressure. But if you travel to a place at a higher altitude then you are used to be, then you should be more prepared for it and your body needs time to adjust to change in pressure.

Any time if you walk above the 8000 feet, you can be the risk for the altitude sickness.

Types

There are three types of altitude sickness. They are listed below

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is the mildest form and it's very common sickness cause to the people who walked to the little high altitude. Its symptoms can be:

  • Hangover-dizziness
  • Headache
  • Muscle Aches
  • Nausea

High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE) is a buildup of fluid in the lungs and can be very dangerous and even cause death.

Some symptoms of the altitude sickness are:

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Fatigue and loss of energy
  • Shortness of the breath
  • Problems with sleep
  • Loss of appetite
  • Dizziness

The preventative measure of altitude sickness

  • Drink at least 4-5 liters of water per day.
  • Always move to a lower altitude if the symptoms of the altitude sickness develop.
  • Avoid alcohols, drugs, tobacco and sleeping pills while trekking in the higher altitude.
  • While walking in the high altitude, eat a balanced diet that includes more than 70% carbohydrates.
  • If possible, start below 10,000 feet and walk to high altitude instead of driving of flying. If you must fly or the drive to an altitude over 10,000 feet, you must stay at you first stop for a day before going to high altitude.
  • While walking at the higher altitude slow and steady is your key to avoid the altitude sickness.
  • If you find the signs and symptoms of the altitude sickness freely share with your guide and if it's critical then visit the hospital as fast as possible.

Best season to Trek Manaslu Circuit Trek

Each season is lovely to trek Manaslu circuit trek in it's each way so the choice is really yours when to trek but remember that the Larke La Pass will be closed by the snow during the winter so you cannot go to the base camp and Tibetan border at that time and also teahouse in the Dharamsala remains closed in January and February.

Late December to Early March

The cold you will feel is balanced by the beautiful views of the frozen waterfalls and rivers. However, above the village of the Namrung, you have to trek on the snow-covered the trial and it's too risky to reach Base Camp and also teahouse at the Dharamsala closed for the winter but by trekking, in this season you can enjoy every walk to your journey with the beautiful mountain views.

Note: Carry proper technical gear, as well as the winter apparel, is required. This time is cold you should carry some snow and ice gear.

March to Late May

In these season rhododendrons start to bloom and lakes are starting to melt. Villagers living in the high altitude who had gone down to nearby cities for the winter have started to return back to their home and by the mid-may, you will see the climbing expeditions around Base Camp. Although you will experience the occasional snowfall by the mid-May it is a very hot starting and ending of the trek so you should be prepared for all this too.

Note: snow gear is not necessary as snowfall will not last for the long but carry other necessary gear while trekking in this season.

June to Mid September

In this season, the rain has washed everything, clean and offer the beautiful scenery of the forest and pastures is lush and very green. You can experience the beautiful views of the Himalayan flora and fauna, enjoy the stunning views of the snow-capped mountains. However, in the rainy season, there are many mosquitoes and bugs around which while not serious are also not pleasant. The trail will be a little slippery but trekking in these you can collect the beautiful memory.

Note: There will be little disturbance by the mosquitoes and leeches and trial will be little slippery be more careful with these and July, June and August are the months with the most of the rains so carry the necessary gear for these.

Late September to Mid December

This is the best season to trek Manaslu Circuit trek. the price of the restricted permits also increases in the season.
